I found this in the parking lot a couple days ago. I know what it is. I’m fascinated by it all the same.
I kept posing it, hoping to capture something of the many interwoven layers that make it up.
The layers are what fascinate me.
At one point in time, it was a fully 3-Dimensional object, rather eliptical in shape. Several tons of steel and rubber crushed it, time and time again, pulverizing and mashing.
Yet it still retains a 3-dimensional feel to it. Narrow strips of wood fiber weaved together through adversity.
I’m wondering how I could recreate that into a piece of art: a Tree of Life of many colors and layers, mimicking this one strange item. This one strange, common item.
Do you know what it is?
Now if I could recreate it and put a face onto it, I’d call it the dancing tree faerie or something.
I’ll be looking at yarn and fibers over the weekend, thinking on this one. I’m certain there is a way to take what Nature and the auto industry created and alter it into a work of art to pass on to a friend.
Just don’t look for the end result soon. It will take me some thinking time.
By the way, have you figured out what it is?
It’s a fir cone. Douglas fir, most likely, because that is the type of fir tree that is planted around the parking lot at work.
