Today’s photo of the day is brought to you by Bank of America. It is planted in front of the bank where I stop to make the nightly deposit from work. I’ve never noticed it before, but this week it is in full bloom and I know I want one in my yard.
I am referring to the tree (?) with “black” leaves and the fuzzy purple flowers. HELP???
Ooo, ooo, I know, I know!!!
It’s a “Black Leafed, Fuzzy Purple Flowers” tree! Very rare. They aren’t common in Nevada because we don’t have enough rainfall.
Oh Terry!!! HAHAHAHA But I think I like “purple smokebush” better…
We have one in our yard and we call it a purple smokebush. I’ll email a picture to Linda, she’s working at 7 Dees there in Portland, and have her tell us the official name.
Hi Jaci
It is a puple smoke tree. Cotinus purpureus is the botanical name. But if you ask for a purple smoke tree they’ll know what you are looking for.
Linda
Thank you Linda! Somehow I knew you would come through. I was just too tired to try to find your email and ask so I “used” Jodi and my blog to get to you. I didn’t know it was so pretty. Darn… I NEED one in my yard!!!
Jaci, you can always email Linda or call her and she can help you out with things like this. She’s really knowledgeable!
I’ve never seen anything like it before! I like the idea of it being called a purple smokebush 🙂
Thank you to all of you! I’ve “seen” purple smokebush in catalogs, but it didn’t register with me that it is actually a very pretty plant! It does look like “smoke” when it is in bloom.
I think I need one in my garden… 😉
Well I bet if you go to Linda’s store she can help you find one!
