“I don’t care if we’re Faeries, Mom: I want to dress like a Human!”

A Drone Faerie and her work basket. I’m sure she has to report back to the Queen Bee Faerie!

Blue is a favorite Faerie color, have you noticed that?

She looks like she might be on a Quest, but can you imagine hiking for very long in those boots?! Must be Magical Boots, or perhaps she has a way of flying from place to place?

Another Quest Seeker. Oh, wait: her entire Quest is to find the Best Bargain. Or the Vendors who accept Visa, Mastercard or Debit.

Then, again, maybe she’s looking for the animé con?

This is Alice. Alice has mugged The White Rabbit and stolen his outfit. She looks classier than the White Rabbit, anyway.

I merely regret that I did not get Alice’s boots into the photograph. They rivaled Mastercard Woman’s white boots (only Alice’s were black).

Really.

Dreadlocks, feather wings and – hey! What is it with the boots, folks? There must be an extra three pounds per foot there!

100% wool, hand dyed wings. Reminds me of a cecropia moth, sort of. really sort of. A moth of some sort. The head is even fuzzy, like a moth head.

100 % wool. WAIT! How did HE get into this gallery? Okay, I guess the sheep has wings, so it counts as a Faerie. But what is that guy doing with the poor sheep tied onto his back? Set the sheep free, Man!

The colors! Oh, the colors! Imagine the music they dance to matches the colors.

Love the shoes, too. Much better than the boots!

Some faeries just never turn around so you can get a good photo. Tree Head here was with a very fiery-headed faerie. I rather liked Tree Head.

OK, I understand Alice’s hat. But what is with the hats here? Clown Faeries. That’s it. They are Clown Faeries.

Black is also a favorite Faerie color. Striped legs, too. And boots. And hats.

Bet you hadn’t figured that out, yet.

No idea where he’s going or what he’s got in that silver case, but here’s a true Were Cat on the move. A living one, too. A rather handsome one.

A woodland Faerie. She looks very much like a true woodland faerie and even has her basket in hand.

This is my friend, before she changed into the cooler Luna costume. I was supposed to get some candid photos of her, but she saw me aim the camera. Still – it looks very candid and not too posed at all. Of course, the subject matter is very photogenic.

WARNING.

The next photo could fit into the Bad Faeries. I almost put it there. But I had to ask myself “why?” Why were they “bad” faeries other than their color choice was a bit, well- bright? Was it the prejudices of society? Or was it that, simply put, I was reminded of the Trash Heap from Fraggle Rock? And if the latter was the case, what was wrong? I like Marjory the Trash Heap.

The reason I have included it here is because I decided that I really didn’t find these costumes so offensive as I found them a bit bright and over-stated. But, taken with the whole of their booth, the mannequin, and their smiles – well, they grew on me. I rather liked their choice of costumes and I thought that they were actually pretty decent. And I concluded that it is time we skinny people give large people a break. So I give this last photo to you in tribute to all my larger-than-life friends: if you want to find your inner faerie, be bold!

I think they are not only larger than life, but the colors flow together wonderfully. Kudos, Faeries!

Well, I have to bow out again. I have a new category of faeries to tell you about: Celebrity Sightings! And there’s still Dancing & Hula Hoop Faeries (which includes Tall Faeries). And I will get to Bad Faeries.

And as soon as Luna sends me her pics of the Orange Ade Faerie, I’ll post pics of myself… Promise.

Puck awaits just inside the gates of Faerieworlds.

Or perhaps it is Tinkerbell that teases your imagination and invites you to follow on a merry little adventure? I could be lured by Tink.

When Luna is in half-phase or

When she shines by day, the faeries come out to play!

Just make certain you do not tempt them to turn you into an arse…

What follows is a gallery of faeries: good, pensive, elated, tired, dreamy and beautiful.

A Blue Butterfly Faerie

A Blue Faerie flexes

Oriental maternal faerie holds her matching parasol

Oh my! The Green Man! And a Very Pink Faerie!

A Flutterby Faerie sways to the music

Faeries in love and faeries dancing

Happy Happy Happy Faeries (and maybe just a tad bit flirty, too)!

Faeries are always dancing. Just take a walk on a moonlit night and glance into shafts of light: there they hover, just beyond your grasp.

I just love the bubbly, happy faeries! And, yes, that is a raven on her head. Doesn’t seem to bother her too much, though!

Dreamy faerie seems to have lost her wings.

There were a lot of horned faeries like this one. I think she is looking for Dreamy’s wings: she has that serious hunting expression on her face.

This Elf wandered into my viewfinder. She looked pensive. Obviously, she is on a Quest and has Journeyed for some time. I wish her luck on her journey!

It looks as if Night has come and the Stars are out. I bid you adieu this evening.

More faeries to come: Dancing Faeries, Hula Hoop Faeries (Faeries love the Hula Hoop), plain old Faeries, and… eventually: really BAD faeries (at least the ones I elect to put on the Internet!)

Good Night.

We left the Portland area by 10AM on Saturday for a hedonistic fun-filled day of people watching at the 2008 Faerieworlds Festival at Secret House Winery. I missed last year and was just blown away at how big this festival has become! It was three times larger than the first year: three times the vendors and three times the crowd! There were so many faeries, Elves, and Other Beings to see and everyone seemed to be in a high mood (except security, but I think they just choose to look dour). I took 125 photos (some are best described as WRONG, but I’ll figure out how to post those later) of some very wonderful fey people. I can’t post pictures of this fey person because I haven’t received any from my friend (she took some of me).

My friend in the morning.

We walked through about a third of the vendors before we decided to return to the car and eat a picnic lunch. My friend changed to a cooler costume then:

Luna the Moon Goddess felt much better in her lighter costume.

Unlike me, she wore her mask all day and remained in character. She’s such a drama queen!

After lunch, it was back to wander through more vendors. We walked until our little footsies hurt. Every one of the vendors was nice and several “insisted” on putting their wares on Chrystal to show her how she’d look. There was the $100 headpiece (no photo allowed since I wouldn’t buy it, but she looked really pretty and the headpiece was adorned with fiber optic lights – well worth the $100) and the $100 “Elf Ears.”

They were carved out of bone and she said they didn’t weigh very much.

She had to settle for the more useful $50 Elf Hoodie which you can’t see very well in this photo, but which will last her a very long time. She *really* wanted the hoodie, anyway.

But enough about us. One of the things I like best about Faerieworlds are the family units. And the wee faeries.

This wee Faerie was probably my favorite.

Pure hedonism belongs to the very young who know nothing else.

The Queen of the Bumblebees made an appearance.

This horned little Faerie was on a roll.

Every time I tried to capture this family unit, they moved. I managed to capture this one wee waif by herself (the rest are in the background – there were several wee ones).

She exemplifies the shop-’til-you-drop hopes of the vendors here as her little faerie treasure bag sags to the ground.

This pair was one of my favorites. He was nestled up against his mom’s neck when I asked if I could get a photo of her with her stunning headpiece. I was taken by her innocence and youth and his tired little face with the “what?” expression.

The first time I saw this couple, all I noticed was their smiles.

I wish the wee faerie would have turned to look at me when I took this. His parents still have their beatific smiles on their faces.

Isn’t she adorable? Her equally tall husband had equally pink hair, but I never could seem to catch him or the little boy faerie. They were always smiling, too.

The little black-winged faerie was also a budding belly dancer. Here she is, patiently waiting for her mom.

This was mom. Looks like she’s getting her necklaces adjusted by a photographer whom I assumed to be her husband.

Wait! What’s this? A rush of sudden movement to the side! An intervening Elf!

The purple faerie was unsuccessful in her attempt to thwart the brave Elf, and he arrived at his bride’s side just as the photographer was finished playing with her necklace. He looks a little bashful about having presumed something else was happening.

“I ask your forgiveness, Fair Faerie Mother and Handsome Elf Father. I did not mean for your handsome Elf to race here, narrowly avoiding the evil Purple Faerie, only to find you did not need rescuing.”

“You are forgiven Sir Photographer, but only if my Fair Faerie Wife can be on the cover of the next Faerie Magazine.”

All the while, the beautiful black-winged daughter dances to the distant music of Celtic drums.

I almost deleted the Purple Faerie because she ran right in front of my camera, but then I realized I had a story here.

I won’t bore you with any more pictures today. Tomorrow, I’ll post some more of the wonderful creatures I spied while wandering the faerie wood at Secret House Winery.
